Old Town in Chicago is one of the finest neighborhoods to live in, with rich history, excellent bars and restaurants, and plenty of parks to relax. Check out the best parts about Old Town below.
History: Known as Old Town Triangle with connected streets of North, Clark, and Ogden, this friendly neighborhood used to be called North Town, because it is just north of the bustling downtown. The Old Town Triangle Association was a group formed by residents in 1948 that wanted to improve the conditions of buildings that had physical deterioration. The streets are mostly diagonal due to the neighborhood being around before the Chicago grid system. The theater scene is rich in Old town, as Jim Belushi, Tina Fey, and Bill Murray all attended The Second City Theater.
Nightlife: Many young professionals go out in Old Town on Wells Street where some of the best restaurants and bars are located. Check out Old Town Pour House for drinks or Happy Camper for pizza. Wells Street also has many street festivals throughout the year.
Lake: The Lake is right around the corner with the famous North Avenue Beach as a popular destination. Many homes have water views as a lot of buildings are high-rises, however there are a lot of town homes with private rooftops.
Fitness: There are a number of fitness facilities in Old Town. Get your workout on at Equinox, Shred415 Soul Cycle, XSport Fitness, or Formula Fitness Club.
Location: Old Town is just north of downtown, right above the Gold Coast neighborhood. Hopping on the red line is an easy way to get to the Loop with just a few stops.
Green Space: Old Town has a lot of green space and parkland, making it friendly for families and dogs. Seward Park is a community favorite as there is a field house, programs, and events. Stanton Park is a 6.5-acre park with an indoor pool, baseball fields, basketball courts, and a playground. The biggest of them all is nearby Lincoln Park, located right beneath the Lincoln Park Zoo and Conservatory. If you cross the bridge, you will be at North Avenue Beach.
